We woke up this morning in Grande Prairie, and left the campground around 9:00.
Went up the road and what do we see, yep, you guessed it,
World's Largest Beaver. I know, the jokes are hard to resist. We had our fun with it.
ANd this was a FREE attraction, can you believe it. Right???.
The Alaska Highway starts in Dawson Creek British Columbia.
There was construction along the Highway so there was a detour through town. If we had not taken the detour, we would have missed this very important site. This is mile "0" of the Alaska Highway.
Next we saw the World's largest Lumberjack. Hummmm, he looks suspiciously like the guy outside the tire shop on Mission Blvd in Hayward. They must be brothers.
We really are the only ones on the Highway for most of the day. At one point we drove for 30 minutes. The stripes on the road were no longer there and the road was not paved, and we thought we missed a turn off or something but it was just the way the road was.
There is a beetle that is eating the pines trees and the devastation is obvious for miles and miles. The sky turned dark at one time, and the clouds were just beautiful, We seemed to drive right beyond the rain for most of the morning. We could see it in the clouds towards the south Rocky Mountains. That is snow along the ridge of the mountains
Then the rain caught up with us for about 10 minutes. Just enough to clean the bugs off the windshield. You might notice on several pictures little smudges. Those were bugs that just didn't make it.
There was a Sasquatch siting again, this time without the Spam. We had lunch with him. I had fish and chips. Really good. The place just had a good downpour before we got there and it was very muddy. We were the only ones in the place. Again.
Pulled into the campground and made tacos for dinner. Life is good Just Skype'd dad for a bit. He emailed me today that there are more people in California than all of Canada, and the further north you go, the less people there are. We go hours and only see 2-3 cars or big-rig trucks.
Opps. Almost forgot to post my barn picture for the day. We have not given up enjoying this old places
On to Whitehorse tomorrow. About 319 miles. We plan to stop at the Liard Hot Springs to take a dip. Heard it is just beautiful there. Most everything in this area is.
Ta Ta for now.
