Dawson Creek

Enjoyed our visit yesterday with our Cousins.   We took a short tour around Edmonton in the morning and compared to San  Francisco, it is very different to drive around.

Ben works at the University of Alberta and is a Professor of Geology, and these rocks have been gathered from all over and placed on the campus for a learning opportunity for his students.   It was a beautiful, large campus.

We  hit the road around 12:15 and headed towards Grande Prairie.    Ben's sister Janine used to live in Grande Prairie and I remember stories of her driving 4 hours to visit one patient, and by looking at this landscape, I understand why it took so long to visit one patient
, and I can only imagine if this area was covered in snow.  This is very typical of the traffic we have encountered, or lack thereof.   It is simply so lovely to drive this way, versus making this driveway on something like Interstate 5 with traffic all around.  Many times,, we are the only ones on the highway as far as we can see.  We can see miles to the north, south, east and west sometimes.

Again we continue to spot these barns or houses that I would love to find out  the story behind them.   We have seen hundreds of them.some close to the road and some farther back on abandoned properties.

We cam down in this valley.  The landscape has changed to more trees along the road, but still  the lack of traffic continues to amaze us.

Heading towards Fort Nelson tonight.  Don't know how  far we will get.  We crossed from Alberta to British Columbia about 20 miles ago.   Dawson Creek is the start of the Great Alaskan Highway.  I think we have about 1900 more miles to go and we hit 2000 miles so far.

Love to all    We are just fine.
